What is BYOD?
BYOD stands for Bring Your Own Device. Students bring their own devices to support learning in the classroom. When they have their own device, students have more options to learn in their own way. Classes that have incorporated the BYOD philosophy support 21st Century Skills such as collaboration, adaptability, and imagination.

No, participation in BYOD is optional. Students will not be penalized for not bringing in a device. The concept behind BYOD is for students to utilize their personal device at school as a tool for learning.
-Can the students access any website on their devices?
The BYOD wireless network that students will connect to is filtered according to district guidelines. Not all websites will be available. Greater Albany Public Schools is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment. Digital Citizenship will be part of the BYOD educational process.
-Will students be able to use their device anytime they want?
Each classroom teacher will have their own classroom management style to leverage the use of mobile devices. Clear expectations and communication on these teaching styles will be decided at the school/classroom level.

No, parents will not be required to purchase anything in regards to BYOD.
-What happens if a student does not know how to work their device?
Greater Albany Public School staff is not responsible for training individuals on how to use their devices. Tech support is also not provided. Students should refer to the device’s handbook for reference. In most cases, students are already comfortable using their device brought to school. However, teachers will promote student collaboration with similar devices.

No, however teachers will utilize web based platforms to submit and showcase student work.
-Can students charge their device at school?
Each day, students should bring their device fully charged to school. It is up to the discretion of the school/classroom to provide charging stations.
